More confirmed names: Jon Hopkins, John Roberts, Roly Porter + MFO, Evian Christ, Face+Heel, Santiago Latorre among others!

Oneohtrix Point Never, Tim Hecker and Emptyset + Joanie Lemercier added to L.E.V. 2013

OPN_bio

Following the previous confirmations of Clark, Andy Stott, Raime, Pole and Kid606, now L.E.V. 2013 is joined by other three essential projects in contemporary electronic music and specially concerned about the physical propierties of sound and music composition with analog sources: Oneohtrix Point Never, Tim Hecker and Emptyset + Joanie Lemercier.

L.E.V. 2013, which will be taking place over the next 3 and 4 May in different areas of Laboral City of Culture in Gijon, is absolutely committed to shape a program focused on experimentation and the new sound scenarios of contemporary music. A physical and ephemeral space, that for two days bring closer to Gijon (Spain) some of the most outstanding projects today, along with fundamental pioneering to understand the evolution of sound and image in all its forms and mutations.

Oneohtrix Point Never is one of the most outstanding electronic music composers in recent years. The man behind works as essential as “Rifts”, “Replica” or “Returnal”. The sound of Daniel Lopatin it’s somewhere between ambient music and drone, with strong influences from krautrock and new age, the lo-fi aesthetics and an obsesive attitude for synthesizer music. We are really proud to announce he will be performing his brand new AV live at L.E.V. 2013.

Tim Hecker is another essential artist in today’s electronic music. He has released five albums and nine EPs on labels as Kranky, Ipecac, Mille Plateaux or Fat Cat, developing a sound on the intersection between noise, dissonance and melody. He makes dense collages, usually accompanied by digital noise generated by computer.

Emptyset is a bristol based project formed in 2005. They explore the legacy of analogue media, integrating aspects of rhythm, signal processing and spatial recording within the framework of minimalist composition. their work interrogates the perceptual boundaries between noise and music and the potential for both technology and architecture to embed and codify themselves within sound. At L.E.V. 2013 they will be performing live together with Joanie Lemercier, another impressive artist from the Bristol scene who is a renowned member of the visual collective AntiVJ, one of the most stunning and interesting visual collectives today.

Tickets for L.E.V. 2013 will be on sale very soon and we will be offering a special 2-days ticket at the cost of 30€ and only on sale for a reduced time. Stay tuned!

Clark to headline L.E.V. 2013 with Andy Stott, Raime, Pole and Kid606

blog1

The Laboratorio de Electrónica Visual will be back in 2013 taking place at its usual venues in Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura, Gijón. It will be during the 3rd and 4th of May, and L.E.V. will try again to take the pulse of the international audiovisual creation with a selection of some of the most interesting artists and projects today.

L.E.V., is a festival specially concerned with the natural synergy between image and sound, the live presentation, the relationship established between audience, artist connection and public space, and the new artistic tendences that constantly emerge on a global level.

Clark, Andy Stott, Raime, Pole and Kid606 are the first confirmed names for L.E.V. 2013.

Clark may be one of the most representative artist today of the infamous Warp Records’ tradition. 2012 has been a succesful year for him with the release of the stunning works: Iradelphic and Fantasm Planes. L.E.V. 2013 is happy to announce him as one of this years’ headliners and he will be showing his new AV show in exclusive for Spain.

Andy Stott and Raime are the most interesting names of the end of 2012. Andy Stott started in 2011 and with We Stay Together and Passed Me By a creative trip that looks now accomplished with the relase of the amazing Luxury Problems. His contribution to modern electronic music is absolutely out of any doubt. Raime are the most acclamed duo of this fall. Their first album: Quarter Turns Over A Living Line, is a brilliant work around their darkest sound: a drawing on the desiccated sonics of ‘70s and ‘80s goth and industrial, jungle’s pulpy dystopianism, and claustrophobic bass. They also will be at L.E.V. 2013 with their AV show.

Pole is another essential name in today’s electronic music. Founder of scape label and responsible, among other names, for the mutation between techno and dub. Pole is a master of bass frequencies and he will show at L.E.V. his complex dubby structures, seamlessly unified with warm and deep basslines. Kid606 is an authentic enfant terrible. Founder of Tigerbeat6 label and insipired by the best of electronica, punk, jungle, hiphop, bass, dancehall and techno, Kid606 fuses it all together with a love of pop culture that Andy Warhol would approve of. At L.E.V. 2013 he will be showing us his future work that will be released in April.

Arbol interview

Arbol, who will be at L.E.V. 2012 with his new album “She Read The Wrong Book” is the protagonist of the mix number 65 of the magazine Playground.

Miguel Marín started to develop a taste for electronic music in his final stage as the drummer of Piano Magic, at the turn of this century. Before that, he had been an occasional collaborator of Spanish band Sr. Chinarro, before moving to London and becoming one of Glen Johnson’s musical partners during his best period, from “Low Birth Weight” to the soundtrack of Bigas Luna’s “Son De Mar”. The man from Seville was in London, all alone and missing Spain, and the vision of a tree (“árbol”, in Spanish) got him the stage name he’s been using ever since: a simple word, which to him represented being at home, with his family. That was five years ago, and he has since released five albums: “Arbol” (Indus Sonica, 2002),“Dreams Made Of Paper” (Lejos Discos, 2005), “You Travelled My Heart Inside Out” (Lejos Discos, 2007), his collaboration with Vicent Fibla on “Bu San” (spa.RK, 2009), and now “She Read The Wrong Book” (spa.RK, 2012), possibly his most complete and balanced work to date: a perfect mix of ambient, almost flickering electronica, soundtrack-like strings and song-like  structures.

“She Read The Wrong Book” was released last January and acts as Arbol’s ticket to a 2012 with a full schedule. As he will explain in this interview, he will be writing the music for a dance performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, as well as a few more scores. Alongside – of course – live performances, for example at the L.E.V. festival, to be held late April in the northern Spanish city of Gijón. All this prompts the perfect opportunity to get to know another one of Arbols digressions: his occasional DJ side. On this podcast, we hear him mixing his own (and unreleased) tracks with pieces by Aphex Twin, Delia Derbyshire and an unreleased song by Piano Magic.

Various Production, Arbol and Patten added to L.E.V. 2012

Live performances of Various Production, Arbol and Patten are added to the next edition of Visual Electronic Laboratory with a set of parallel activities such as the L.E.V. – ScannerFM spanish call for new projects, the installation “data.tecture “[5 SXGA+ version]” by Ryoji Ikeda and the international group exhibition “Visualizar el sonido”, presented by LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial.

L.E.V. 2012, will be taking place over the next 27 and 28 April in different venues of Laboral City of the Culture, in Gijón (Spain), and during two days will shape a program focused on experimentation and the new sound scenearios of contemporary music. L.E.V. will bring close to Gijon some of the most outstanding projects today, along with fundamental pioneering of electronic music.

Various Production, the elusive project that handles like no other a sound spectrum able to move between the bass music, folk, spectral trip hop and urban blues, will present in L.E.V. 2012 its new a/v live surrounded by vocalists. Arbol will be also present with his band at L.E.V. to play the essential “She Read The Wrong Book”, a major work with which Arbol makes of himself one of the references of Spain. And Patten, who after signing one of the most complex and amazing works of last year, will be presenting live his brain rhythms.

In terms of exhibitions, L.E.V. 2012 will offer the opportunity to enjoy two key exhibitions to understand the logic of sound. “data.tecture [5 SXGA+ version] is the new project by the renowned composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda. A site-specific work designed for LABoral that offers the visitor a totally immersive and sensory experience. Visualizar el Sonido, is an international group exhibition, curated by Fiumfoto and Benjamin Weil which aims to explore the synthesis between image and sound and its evolution in the context of contemporary art. An investigation explored by L.E.V. since its first edition that now  is held by LABoral to go beyond the live action and to approach us the work of artists as Ryoichi Kurokawa, David Letellier (Kangding Ray) or Zimoun.

L.E.V. 2012: 27 & 28 de Abril. Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura. Gijón.

L.E.V. or Visual Electronics Laboratory is a project that offers a panoramic, eclectic and qualitative vision on the electronic music and visual creation wide spectrum since 2007.

A physical an ephemeral space, concerned about the natural synergy between image and sound, the live action, the experimentation and the constant mutations between genres and styles that emphasize the importance of music and visual art as artistic manifestations in continuous evolution.

The sixth edition of the Visual Electronics Laboratory will be held on 27 and 28 April in different venues of Labor City of Culture, in Gijón, and once again bring together a selection of the most interesting local and international artists, young talents and established artists.

Mika Vainio, Kuedo, Soap&Skin, Anstam and Old Apparatus are the first names confirmed for LEV 2012.

Mika Vainio has gals who credited him as one of the true pioneers of the more abrasive and less comfortable sounds. Member of the dissolved group Pan Sonic, probably one of the most important projects of the experimental electronic, noise and industrial music, will present in Gijón his whirlwind of sound usually supported by platforms such as Raster Noton, Touch or Editions Mego.

Kuedo has been one of the revelations of the past 2011. His latest work, Severant, has been unanimously acclaimed as one of the best albums of last year and in 2012 L.E.V. will be present with his new live set.

LEV 2012 also will be attended by Soap&Skin, who with the imminent publication of his second album, Narrow, will show at the festival why is one of the artists with most future today. The universe of sound that has managed to carve based on harrowing pianos and his disturbing personal mix of pop, dark ambient and cinematic music de facto places she as one of the most exciting artists today.

Anstam and Old Apparatus are two of the most striking of the last year. Anstam, signer of one of the albums of the year, the essential Dispel Dances, will present a stunning live audiovisual at L.E.V.. Like Old Apparatus, the mysterious group that, after publishing two great 12″ at the prestigious label Deep Medi Musik, is positioned as one of the most interesting promises for the future. They also will be present with his a/v live.

Four names added to L.E.V. 2012 line-up

The cubist and unstructured hip-hop of Prefuse 73, the hypnagogic pop of post-dubstep origins from Holy Other, the occultist and industrial vision of Fasenuova and the stunning visual compositions of Ryoichi Kurokawa are now part of the program of the sixth edition of the Laboratory Visual Electronics.

LEV 2012, which will be taking place over the next 27 and 28 April 28 in different areas of Laboral City of Culture in Gijon, is absolutely committed to shape a program focused on experimentation and the new sound scenarios of contemporary music. A physical and ephemeral space, that for two days bring closer to Gijon (Spain) some of the most outstanding projects today, along with fundamental pioneering to understand the evolution of sound and image in all its forms and mutations.

Following the previous confirmations of Mika Vainio, Kuedo, Soap & Skin, Anstam and Old Apparatus, now L.E.V. 2012 is joined by other four essential projects: Prefuse 73, Holy Other, Fasenouva and Ryoichi Kurokawa.

Prefuse 73 is, in his own right, one of the greatest visionaries and pioneers of abstract electronics. His personal vision of electronic music over the last decade, has shaped a unique imaginary drawn based on dislocated rhythms, glitch, IDM, and abstract funk. His live in 2012 LEV will be very special, because we can enjoy an unforgettable show around the sounds of his works.

Holy Other released past year one of the most essential ep’s. He will recreate in the Visual Electronics Laboratory her personal universe of haunting atmospheres and liquid voices. A one way trip between mist and emotions where we can discover some of the new material, which will soon light on their debut album.

LEV 2012 will again witness the stunning audiovisual landscapes of Ryoichi Kurokawa. A true genius in the handling of audiovisual language who will presented in Gijon “syn_”, his latest audiovisual concert.

Fasenuova are undoubtedly one of the most important national projects last year. After years of intense experimentation, have managed to carve an identity all their own, magnetic, an imaginary exciting and absolutely essential where the folk occult and industrial music come together in an amalgam extreme, inviting us to dance and be driven by obsessive rhythms and electric shock that will lead to a truly unique sound and physical experience.
