[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]Matadero Madrid, the contemporary creation center belonging to the Government Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports, and managed by Madrid Destino, presents this new\u00a0L.E.V. Matadero Festival<\/strong>. The Festival of Visual Electronica and Immersive Experiences, produced by Matadero Madrid and Cineteca Madrid and directed by Datatr\u00f3n platform, will take place between\u00a0September 24 and 27, 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n In 2019 a new festival was born in Madrid. After a long history in Gij\u00f3n, L.E.V. broadened the scope to reach the capital city thanks to Matadero, in order to showcase an extensive lineup which explores the forefront of contemporary digital creativity. In 2020, L.E.V. Matadero retains its full ambition and experimental vision, adapted to these current times and following the new health and hygiene rules. During four days, the Festival will combine on-site activities and new shows specifically created for a digital environment to showcase new experiences in the fields of audiovisual creation, electronica and art created with digital tools.<\/p>\n With this effort, Matadero strengthens its support to national creations and its international focus by showing in Madrid the art of Laurie Anderson, Hsin-Chien Huang, and Claudia Mat\u00e9; the very first virtual reality project by film director Darren Aronofski with Eliza McNitt, plus works related to big names from the international sound creation scene, such as Biosphere, Sigur Ros, Matthew Herbert, and Robert Lippok.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][edgtf_section_title position=”left” disable_separator=”no” title_tag=”h4″ disable_title_break_words=”no” title=”Vortex. Virtual Reality and VR Cinema experiences”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]The\u00a0Vortex (VRTX)<\/strong>\u00a0section, focused on immersive experiences, will keep on exploring the narrative and artistic possibilities of new digital environments. Shows will take place on-site and follow the new health and hygiene rules at different spaces of Matadero, with Nave 0 as main stage but also using Nave 16, the Workshop, the Plat\u00f3 hall and the Cineteca Madrid Archive.<\/p>\n Vortex shows will approach sound experimentation in the digital field using the main concept of travelling. This is the case for\u00a0To The Moon<\/em><\/strong>, a work by\u00a0Laurie Anderson<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Hsin-Chien Huang<\/strong>\u00a0to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing; or\u00a0Spheres<\/em><\/strong>, directed by\u00a0Eliza McNitt<\/strong>, the first VR venture by film director and screenwriter\u00a0Darren Aronofsky<\/strong>\u00a0(Requiem for a dream, Black Swan<\/em>). An invitation to listen to the sound of gravitational waves plus the voices of rock legend\u00a0Patti Smith<\/strong>\u00a0and actress\u00a0Millie Bobby Brown<\/strong>\u00a0(Eleven from\u00a0Stranger Things<\/em>\u00a0series).<\/p>\n This section will also feature works related to big names of international sound creation. The project\u00a0\u2018Tonandi\u2019<\/strong>, a collaboration between\u00a0Sigur Ros<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Magic Leaps<\/strong>, is an interactive exploration of the sounds and imaginary of the Icelandic band through augmented reality.\u00a0\u2018A Symphony of Noise VR\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0is a virtual reality interactive project based on the works by\u00a0Matthew Herbert<\/strong>, which allows the audience to create their own music compositions.<\/p>\n New additions to the lineup are\u00a0Peach Garden<\/strong>, a project by Korean artist\u00a0Hayoun Kwon<\/strong>\u00a0that takes us to a sensory journey through a surreal garden; or\u00a0The Entropy<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by Austrian collective\u00a0Depart<\/strong>, which also uses a garden as the starting point, in this case to explore the nature of post-digital reality. User interaction is essential in works as the\u00a0H.E.A.R.T. project<\/strong><\/em>, which uses biosensors to connect our emotions straight to the visual environment. Another addition is a collaboration with Canada\u2019s Mutek Festival:\u00a0The Orchid and The Bee<\/em><\/strong>, a project by\u00a0Frances Adair Mckenzie<\/strong>\u00a0where the idea of playing gets translated into the realms of virtual reality.<\/p>\n To complete the VORTEX section, several VR Cinema films will be screened at the Workshop:\u00a0Black Bag<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Qing Shao<\/strong>,\u00a0Conscious of Existence<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Marc Zimmermann<\/strong>, and\u00a0Passenger<\/em><\/strong>, directed by\u00a0Isobel Knowles<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Van Sowerwine<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][edgtf_section_title position=”left” disable_separator=”no” title_tag=”h4″ disable_title_break_words=”no” title=”Augmented City. Matadero section will showcase different artistic experiences which use augmented reality, so that the audience may use their mobile phones to visualize the new layers of digital reality, increasingly present in our daily lives.<\/p>\n Madrid artist\u00a0Claudia Mat\u00e9<\/strong>, one of the most internationally renowned net artists, will create specifically for L.E.V. Matadero a big size visual sculpture inspired by\u00a0The Fallen Angel<\/em>, the iconic statue at Retiro Park in Madrid. Claudia\u2019s work\u00a0Entes celestiales<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Heavenly Entities) is a conceptual oxymoron between monotheism and paganism, which Mat\u00e9 invites us to geolocalize using augmented reality, at Matadero Madrid and Templo de Debod\u2019s viewpoint. With this project, Matadero supports once more the creation of new works by Spanish artists that use day-to-day technology in a creative way.<\/p>\n In Augmented City there is also room for collective experiences such as\u00a0M.O.A (My Own Assistance) AR<\/strong><\/em>, an interactive fiction in augmented reality based on Alain Damasio\u2019s novel\u00a0The Stealthies<\/em>. Taking place in a 2040 dystopian reality, this experience will allow the audience to walk around the locations of the novel and take part in the narrative using their mobile devices. This world premiere in collaboration with NewImages Festival (Paris) and Bienal Chroniques (Aix en Provence & Marseille) has been developed by\u00a0Marie Blondiaux<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Charles Ayats<\/strong>, and produced by Red Corner.<\/p>\n This section also includes works for all the family such as\u00a0URAMADO Tanukis Awake AR<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Julie Stephen Chheng<\/strong>, a walk around Matadero using an augmented reality app to learn the true story of the Tanukis, some fascinating spirits of the forest.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][edgtf_section_title position=”left” disable_separator=”no” title_tag=”h4″ disable_title_break_words=”no” title=”Planet LEV Matadero. Created by\u00a0Children of Cyberspace<\/strong>\u00a0and produced by Matadero Madrid and L.E.V, the project Planet LEV is a new artistic experience, born during lockdown in order to turn these challenging times for culture into a chance to experiment with new formats.<\/p>\n This dreamlike universe is a circuit of audiovisual installations, sculptures, and animations, available in virtual reality, through the devices installed at Cineteca Plat\u00f3, and through web browsers, visiting\u00a0planet.levfestival.com<\/a><\/p>\n Among the installations, we will be able to enjoy works created for this virtual world by artists close to L.E.V.\u2019s orbit, such as\u00a0Robert Lippok & Lucas Guti\u00e9rrez<\/strong>\u00a0and their\u00a0SPIN<\/strong>\u00a0project: two impressive levitating rings that generate a space for meditation between them, a place where nature sounds and civilization meet. Planet LEV is also inhabited by\u00a0Tentacle Queen<\/em><\/strong>, a four-armed goddess and the main character in\u00a0Zora Jones<\/strong>\u2018 new album, created by herself and\u00a0Sinjin Hawke<\/strong>\u00a0through their creative platform\u00a0Fractal Fantasy<\/strong>; and\u00a0Monades<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Sabrina Ratt\u00e9<\/strong>, a series of sculptures made of 3D scans which invite us to think about the role of selfies in our digital world.<\/p>\n Heterotopies<\/strong><\/em>, the first collaboration of\u00a0El\u00edas Merino<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Sergio Mill\u00e1n<\/strong>, is an abstract, tridimensional space formed by colossal audiovisual structures, where music and visuals go through different processes. The result is an experience of infinite possible realities.\u00a0Concentric Core Reflector<\/em><\/strong>, a fragmented structure in the shape of a shimmering portal, a way to get inside a cave where the synthetic forms reflect organic systems, is a project created by\u00a0MSHR<\/strong>, the twosome formed by\u00a0Birch Cooper<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Brenna Murphy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Last but not least,\u00a0Biosphere & Initi<\/strong>\u00a0will stay at Planet LEV during the four days of the festival with a daunting audiovisual work created specifically for Domos.<\/p>\n Among the live acts and the audiovisual happenings which will take place online, we may find artists such as\u00a0Nik Void & Peter Rehgber<\/strong>\u00a0with their joint effort\u00a0NPVR<\/strong>\u00a0as part of\u00a0Arcanoid<\/strong>, the Forest in Planet LEV. Their live show\u00a0Ecosistema<\/em>\u00a0will occupy one of the caves in the planet.<\/p>\n Besides the installation by\u00a0Fractal Fantasy<\/strong>, the festival also hosts the new show by this duo.\u00a0Dreamrooms<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is the result of a highly experimental process, which takes them through a quite an unbeaten path.<\/p>\n Taiwanese production company\u00a0Meuko! Meuko!<\/strong>\u00a0collaborates with\u00a0NAXS Corp<\/strong>. to create an online virtual reality installation and the audiovisual show\u00a0Ghost Island: Innervision<\/strong><\/em>, a dystopian world set to experimental, dreamlike sonic landscapes. And\u00a0Boris Divider<\/strong>\u00a0will showcase\u00a0Spheral.dome<\/em><\/strong>, an audiovisual project designed to be screened over a spherical dome.<\/p>\n Besides,\u00a0dot tape dot<\/strong>\u00a0will play a live show conceived as a single, several hour long piece, a compendium of Daniel Romero\u2019s latest works about algorithmic, generative composition.
