Performative av installation
After its appearance at the last edition of the L.E.V. Festival in Gijón, L.E.V. Matadero brings to Madrid the work of one of the most relevant names in the world of contemporary scenic arts: Romeo Castellucci, famous worldwide for creating theatre plays based on the entirety of arts, and oriented towards an integral perception.
The Third Reich is a frantic, performative video installation based on the spectral representation of all the substantives included in the Italian dictionary, translated to Spanish and projected on a gigantic screen at a very fast pace, one by one, to force the audience into losing their perception. With sound composed by experimental electro-acoustic musician Scott Gibbons, this project is the image of an imposed, mandatory communication; of the explicit violence of a single, mass-produced language. The furious bundle of words used here does not allow any choice or judgment. The core of language transformed into white noise, leading to chaos.

English singer, composer and actress Keeley Forsyth has forged a powerful, uncompromising and unique presence on the contemporary music scene in recent years. Grounded in the raw emotionality of her singular voice and striking physical performance, Keeley’s universe-building is infused with a steely sense of purpose and a stark, bleak beauty. Drawing inspiration from the rugged landscapes of her native North Yorkshire, the existential intensity of Samuel Beckett and Bela Tarr, Antonin Artaud’s Theatre of Cruelty and the neo-expressionist choreography of Pina Bausch, her work probes beneath the veneer of everyday life through a sharply styled monochrome visual aesthetic, exploring often dark and weighty themes. At L.E.V. Matadero she will perform her third and latest studio album The Hollow, released last spring on FatCat Records’ 130701 label.

Over the past 12 years, German musician and engineer Moritz Simon Geist has focused his practice on the development and exploration of sound production through the integration of robotics, kinetics, and hardware. His new performance Recycling Techno, which he will premiere at L.E.V. Matadero, continues that tradition, emphasizing the life-cycle of waste generated by our society and the reuse of obsolete technology.
Through the use of discarded mechanical and electronic parts from electric vehicles, scientific laboratory equipment and other high-tech products, Geist generates repetitive sound structures and electronic music, characteristic musical patterns that seek to raise awareness of the environmental impact of electronic waste. The combination of technical ingenuity and artistic expression in his performances captivates with its musical and visual creativity, while generating a plea for awareness of the consumption and disposal of technology.

Since the release of his first demos in 2011, percussionist, sound manipulator and visual artist, NAH has been developing his own dynamic synthesis of textured noise and genre smashing percussive rhythms with firm roots planted in DIY punk, noise, avant jazz, electronic music and the restlessness of hip-hop. Performing live with little more than a drum kit and various samplers, he channels a frenetic energy that teeters on the edge of violent hostility and playful chaos. Recent years have found him not only producing his own work but also collaborating with artists such as Wiki, Mike, Moor Mother, Slauson Malone, Iggor Cavalera, Evicshen, Cities Aviv, Obongjayar and many more.
For his performance at L.E.V. Matadero, NAH presents the AV show Totally Recalled, a guaranteed head-tripping adventure full of visual reflections on the confusion, disconnection, narcissism, anxiety and fear that pervades the Americanized modern experience.

Axontorr is a collaborative art project by Oliver Torr, Czech multidisciplinary artist, composer and sound designer, and Axonbody, stage name of Parisian 3D creator Simon Kounovsky. Working together in different creative and aesthetic fields, the Axontorr project defines and solidifies the combined approach of both artists in a live performance consisting of a series of audiovisual experiences and performative elements, filled with both improvised and structured moments, song like structures and noisy sound design destruction, using musical instruments created by the artists themselves.
Through intensive collaborative research, Axonbody and Oliver Torr keep implementing new techniques, experiments and compositions into their live act – presenting a strobe like cross section of their collaborative and individual work.
The project was commissioned by and premiered at Lunchmeat Festival 2023 in Prague.

plus44Kaligula is the stage name of songwriter, producer, composer, and performance artist Cally Statham. With influences such as David Bowie, Beth Gibbons and Aphex Twin informing her song craft and performances, Statham’s sound is one of dark, dramatic impulses and strange, compelling juxtapositions – bold vocals reigning over collagist productions of liquid textures that beckon a host of seraphim to song. A deep theatrical sensibility is felt in plus44Kaligula’s music, albeit grounded in the very real, earnest quality of her call.
With set design by Emmanuel Biard (Evian Christ, Trance Party, Moon Duo, Aisha Devi), plus44Kaligula’s performances interlock spectral, experimental pop with immediate and studied physicality of movement and voice, making for a true wonder of sound and vision.

Horma is producer Sole Parody’s side project focused on techno and experimental electronica. An inevitable spin-off from Le Parody, her usual alias, after her latest works in which electronica was gaining more and more ground over vocals. From the Trilla EP, still signed as Le Parody, the artist decided to continue her more folklorist and popular side as Le Parody and to inaugurate with Horma a new terrain for experiments in dark electronica. Horma emerges from the late raves of the 2000s, from the decaying Berlin clubs, from the nostalgia of nights that never existed and the weariness of the afters.
At the festival she will premiere her project Matadero, which she has been working on with the support of Matadero Madrid’s Centro de residencias artísticas after being selected in 2023 in the II Open Call for experimental electronic music projects in Madrid. In it, she works from the recordings made by the Sound Readers collective in the warehouses and spaces of the art centre ten years ago, when they had just acquired their new artistic uses. New uses that do not obscure the architecture and industrial echoes of its origins as a municipal slaughterhouse. Horma will be accompanied in the visuals by multimedia artist Azael Ferrer.
