BARBARA MYDLAK & YANN DEVAL. CHRONICA V1

_FR

Chronica V1 is an interactive ritual bringing millennia-old papermaking techniques into dialogue with AR technologies that explores the theme of healing and resilience in the face of illness.

Observing personal vestiges to understand our relationship to illness, zooming in on our fragmented memory to try to reconstruct it, blowing over a difficult moment to make it lighter.

Guided through a diary consisting of a multitude of handmade paper pages and sounds representing the artists’ autobiographical sensations, participants create their own virtual archive and engage in its visual and aural transformation.

Through the artists’ stories and their own healing processes, we’ll experience a journey that’s at once introspective, collective and sensory.

Barbara Mydlak is a Polish visual artist, independent researcher, head of Mydlak Studio, currently living in Ghent in Belgium and running her atelier as part of NUCLEO program. She works at the intersection of art, craft and science, creating organic, fibrous handmade paper installations from cellulose obtained from paper or textile remnants and discarded plants, often expanded with film, photography, documentation of the process and research, sound, or interactive elements.

Yann Deval is a creator of VR/AR experiences (design, programming and music) with the installations/performances ATLAS, IMMERSIO, and CHRONICA (performed at Ars Electronica, Venice Biennale of Architecture, EU@SXSW, IRCAM Centre-Pompidou). After graduating from Panthéon-Sorbonne University with a degree in film history and studying audiovisual post-production in Cannes,  he developed his activities in Ghent and Brussels as motion-designer, music composer and interactive designer, notably with the REANIMATION collective (for the New York Times, Arte, France Télévisions).
