One of electronic music’s most innovative characters, 2018 saw Sega Bodega release his most ambitious and wide-reaching projects yet to increasing acclaim.

As a founding member of boundary-pushing collective NUXXE, Sega was featured in Dazed & Confused’s prestigious Dazed 100 list, a list of the most influential artists operating in art and media today, and alongside his own solo releases has collaborated with like-minded artists such as Quay Dash, oklou and Shygirl.

A keen soundtracker, Sega scored Nike’s recent Jumpman advert, contributed music to Rihanna’s Puma x Fenty show at New York Fashion Week (in collaboration with Shygirl) and provided sound design for Brooke Candy and PornHub’s landmark I Love You, the first adult film to feature full-length gay, lesbian and trans scenes all under one title.

The second half of 2018 has seen Sega focus on self*care, a multi-disciplinary project that represents his most realised work to date and continues into 2019 with a brand new live show. Exploring the topic of self-preservation in its many guises, self*care launched in October with a six-track EP that found Sega placing his own vocals at the forefront of his music for the first time, resulting in one of the year’s best-received experimental pop projects and racking up almost 100,000 streams in less than a month.

Not content to restrict self*care to a solely audio project, November saw Bodega team up with six of his favourite directors, including Brooke Candy, Tash Tung and BEA1991, for a series of short films inspired by the project’s theme. The films were debuted at a sold-out screening at London’s recently-restored Castle Cinema.
