fuse*: Dökk

Sunday 25, 9 pm. Teatro de la Laboral

Everything that surrounds us is nothing but a collection of atoms, particles and electromagnetic fields, vibrating without any apparent meaning. When these impulses are interpreted by our mind, they become colours, tastes, music, memories and emotions: the foundations of what each one of us perceives as reality. Live Media Performance Dökk is a journey through the subconscious mind, where reality is represented by worlds and universes that take form and dissolve within the mind, as it constantly seeks a balance between light and darkness.

Dökk, “darkness” in Icelandic, is the upshot of three years of work by art studio fuse* aimed at the creation of a show capable of stimulating a sense of profound empathy, transmitting two key concepts: synchronicity and the unforeseeableness of human existence. In order to obtain this result, the performance combines live choreography and a real-time data system that analyzes sound, the movement of the performer, her heartbeat and the sentimental analysis of contents shared on social networks. This data is then interpreted and projected simultaneously in the form of digital landscapes and 3D objects.

With Dökk, the stage becomes a place in which it is possible to lose one’s perception of space and time: a place of the mind in which reality is reconstructed as the result of one’s own actions, and in which every gesture has its own particular consequence.

FUSE*

fuse* is an art studio and production company working with emerging technology to interpret the complexity of human and natural phenomena. Since inception, the studio’s research has focused primarily on the production of installations and live media performances which instill wonder and motivate audiences to challenge what is possible. As the studio evolved, creation of new projects became more holistic and placed increasingly higher value on pure experimentation. The objective of fuse* is to push past accepted limits, spur empathy and seek out new interplay between light, space, sound, and movement. fuse* maintains close ties to its community, by developing, supporting, and promoting projects with the intent of propagating culture and knowledge. In this vein, fuse* has co-produced NODE, an electronic music and digital arts festival, since 2016.

Over the years, fuse* has exhibited and performed internationally at art institutions and festivals including Mutek, TodaysArt, Sónar Istanbul, Artechouse, STRP Biennial, RomaEuropa, Kikk, Scopitone and the National Centre for the Performing Arts of China.
