Lorenzo Senni presents Canone Infinito Extended

Lorenzo Senni presents Canone Infinito Extended

Live shows & av performances

Italian producer and composer Lorenzo Senni arrives for the first time at L.E.V Matadero with a unique sound experience: Canone Infinito Xtended, a soundscape where the intensity resides in the unfinished and the emotional, which are built from the architecture of detail.

In this extended version of Canone Infinito, he unfolds a work in constant evolution, where each variation acts as an autonomous chapter within a story without closure. The result is an open structure, deliberately unfinished, that comes to life through live performance and dialogue between minimalist precision and emotional intensity.

True to his signature style he deconstructs Trance archetypes to delay the euphoria and eliminate the climax. Senni turns repetition into an expressive and conceptual tool. Canone Infinito Xtended moves between hypnotic arpeggiated sequences and bursts of controlled maximalism. A performance that can be read both as an immersive journey and as an exercise on the act of composing in the digital age.

Lorenzo Senni, based in Milan, is one of the most influential figures in contemporary electronic experimentation. His career includes releases on Warp Records, awards such as the Prix Ars Electronica, and collaborations with visual artists including Ed Atkins, John Divola, Anne de Vries, and Friedrich Kunath. In addition to founding the Presto!? Records, he has composed for film and dance. His work has been presented at festivals and venues such as the Tate Modern, Venice Biennale, Centre Pompidou, Sonar, Primavera Sound, and the Serpentine Gallery.

MYRIAM BLEAU & NIEN TZU WENG

Live shows & av performances

This edition of L.E.V Matadero presents Second Self, a hypnotic audiovisual performance created by Canadian artist Myriam Bleau together with Taiwanese-Canadian artist Nien Tzu Weng. This project examines how the increasing digitalization of the world is transforming our perception of the human, leading to a new form of hybrid existence. Through gestures, sound, movement, and projections, the artists use portable LED screens as body prostheses that function as mirrors, masks, or tactile interfaces. On stage, the performers transition from the physical to the virtual and from the human to the non-human, engaging in a scenic ritual that reflects on identity and technology through a cyborg aesthetic.

Inspired by Sherry Turkle’s theory of the screen as a “second self,” this performance places the audience in an in-between mixed reality where digital images, sound echoes, and mirror reflections mediate the connection with oneself. Second Self evokes the myth of Narcissus and Echo, playing with the idea of identity duality, the avatar, and the cyborg. With a staging loaded with symbolism and electronic sensibility, the piece invites us to contemplate what we are becoming as a species in a world where the boundaries between body and machine, between image and materiality, are increasingly blurred.

ANNABELLE PLAYE, HUGO ARCIER y RIMA BEN BRAHIM

Live shows & av performances

The LEV Matadero festival presents ARS NATURA, a creation by multidisciplinary artist Annabelle Playe in collaboration with Hugo Arcier. Both propose an immersive work that questions the boundaries between nature, architecture, science fiction, and sound.

In this work, the visual representations of natural landscapes and brutalist architecture place us before an ambiguous world: are we facing a simulation, a reconstruction of the past, or a vision of a post-anthropocene planet? This visual universe, marked by the absence of humans and animals, comes to life only through the presence on stage of a solitary figure who activates, through sound, the appearance and disappearance of the images.

The protagonist, whether human or cyborg, is an interface, a mirror, an entity that raises questions about our connection with the living world. The work proposes a deep, contemplative experience, one that involves total immersion in a powerful, wild, and sometimes disturbing natural environment through a visual and sound narrative that pushes the limits of reality.

SPIME IM Grey line Live Av _IT

Live shows & av performances

The Italian collective SPIME.IM, an international benchmark in digital art, debuts at L.E.V. Matadero 2025 with its live audiovisual creation: GREY LINE, a powerful exploration of the human experience in the age of overinformation, the climate crisis, and the moral ambiguity of the present.

SPIME.IM has been investigating the languages, aesthetics, and narratives derived from the affirmation of digital reality for years. In his projects, identity, corporeality, and the perception of the human being are rethought under the prism of a world intensely mediated by screens, algorithms, and fragmented discourses. In the GREY LINE project, he continues this conceptual line through an audiovisual experience in real time that combines an overwhelming aesthetic intensity with a deeply reflective approach.

The central concept of the work is based on the shades of gray as a representation of those zones where the different emotional and political positions of our present intersect. The piece proposes a journey through the shadows of the present: climate change, the collapse of information, and collective disorientation in a world that seems to have taken a wrong turn. Through digital techniques, the collective crafts an abstract and visceral narrative that seeks to lend sensitive form to the avalanche of stimuli that shape our contemporary reality.

MATTHEW BIEDERMAN & ALAIN THIBAULT

MATTHEW BIEDERMAN & ALAIN THIBAULT

Live shows & av performances

L.E.V Matadero presents Incertitude, an audiovisual research created by Matthew Biederman and Alain Thibault. The work invites us to reflect on the tensions between trust and uncertainty, between sound and image, between algorithmic order and the beauty of chance.

In Incertitude, Biederman and Thibault fuse analog material with digital control to offer a synesthetic experience. The image is sculpted in real-time by algorithms that dialogue with synthetic and repetitive music, evoking the hypnotic minimalisms of a Philip Glass distorted by grainy layers of sound. This algorithmic structure gives way to an aesthetic that explores the materiality of the pixel and the sound grain in a narrative that alternates between musical and purely textural states.

The performance reveals the technical complexity that underlies its creation: digital systems can only function in conjunction with conventional computers, and it is in this hybridization that the work achieves its most outstanding expressive richness. As an aesthetic and sound research that never renounces experimentation, it is an immersion in expanded cinema and in repetition as a tool to transform the perceptual experience.

Matthew Biederman has been working at the intersection of light, space, and sound since 1990, exploring the complexities of perception through projects exhibited at events and venues such as the Biennale de Lyon, the Tokyo Museum of Photography, Ars Electronica, and the Biennale of Digital Art (CA). As co-founder of the Arctic Perspective initiative, together with Marko Peljhan, he has developed artistic and scientific projects in remote Arctic environments.

Alain Thibault is a key creator in the digital and sound art scene, as well as the founder and artistic director of events such as ELEKTRA and the BIAN (International Biennial of Digital Art) in Montreal. His music has been presented at festivals in Europe, Asia, and the United States, and his curatorial work has been instrumental in understanding the evolution of experimental sound in recent decades.

CARMEN JACI & MATTHEW SCHOEN _CA/QC

Live shows & av performances

In L.E.V. Matadero 2025, artists Carmen Jaci and Matthew Schoen collaborate on an immersive audiovisual performance that explores the emotional and aesthetic complexities of our relationship with digital systems, data, and algorithms.

Through a non-linear narrative in which sound and image interact in real-time, the duo proposes a poetic and critical reflection on identity in the age of information overexposure. This transdisciplinary collaboration turns personal and social data into a work where the intimate and the technological intertwine.

Since her beginnings as an electronic music producer, Carmen Jaci has incorporated the collection and measurement of personal data related to issues such as job insecurity, uncertainty, or anxiety about the future into her artistic practice. These records serve as raw material for a socio-political discourse that resonates in Matthew Schoen’s visual universe, fostering a fluid audiovisual conversation between sound and form.

The result is a constellation of visual and sound stimuli that evokes a childlike curiosity toward digital networks, as well as the bewilderment and surrealism of an identity increasingly mediated by automated systems. Through graphic interfaces inspired by mobile applications, the piece translates the digital routine into an audiovisual language that is both sensitive and critical.

MP3. MP3 LIVE #1 _ES (Premiere)

Live shows & av performances

In this edition of L.E.V Matadero 2025, the MP3 collective presents its performative concert MP3 Live, an experience in which body movement and dance are transformed into sound and time. This performance is an experimental journey that intertwines rhythm, dance, and electronic music in an immersive narrative, transforming the stage into a space where sound is captured, manipulated, and created through the physical presence of the performers.

MP3 —an acronym for Movement Played by 3— is a collective formed by artists Arnau Pérez, Pau Vegas, and Fernando Careaga, who, from their background in music and dance, investigate new forms of sound creation from movement. Their work explores the boundaries between disciplines, generating a hybrid language that combines electronic music and corporeal expression. Thus, they capture sound information from movement through sensors and custom-designed devices, making gesture, energy, and corporeality an essential part of the live composition.

The name of the collective refers to the digital format MP3, a metaphor that runs through their work, inviting us to reflect on the compression of time and the influence that digital technology exerts on our way of life today.

The proposal has been developed thanks to the support of the Centro de Residencias Artísticas of Matadero Madrid after being selected in the Convocatoria para proyectos de música electrónica experimental de Madrid (2024).
